Younger children most often need to hear “it” from their parents. Typically, I work with the parents to help them understand what is going on inside their ADHD child’s brain. ADHD is incredibly counterintuitive. Parenting an ADHD child is just as counterintuitive. I teach parenting strategies that work for ADHD kids. Usually, with the right methods, families can lower the stress and acrimony while slowly, but surely, modifying their child’s behavior to achieve a better result.
Some of the other topics I often discuss with parents/families are:
- Daily routine, (morning and evening)
- Homework struggles
- Impulsivity
- Executive function issues
- Positive parenting techniques
- Lowering family stress and reducing arguing
- How to handle ADHD and non-ADHD kids under the same roof
- How to decide if medication is part of the answer
