Home Organizing

Home OrganizingOur home should be a place where we feel safe, in control, and at peace.  But a disorganized home can feel out of control, stressful, and overwhelming.  I work with my organizing clients to help them create the home that they have always wanted.  I was an organizational disaster as a kid.  In overcoming my inherent disorganization I learned how to conquer the organizational challenges that face us in each new phase of life.  For example, being organized in high school didn’t mean I knew how to be organized when I was on my own at college.  That was a new skill set that I had to teach myself.  I love that I can pass along all that I have learned and continue to co-create new systems with my clients, so they don’t have to learn it all the hard way like I did.Of course, getting organized is easier said than done, but I have a unique style that yields lasting results.  I believe there are three things that set me apart from most organizers.  First, I don’t think there is any substitute for working with someone who has been there and worked his way through it.  If I could do it, I can help you do it too.  The second thing that sets me apart is my organizing philosophy.  I believe that getting organized should make your life easier.  I find that the answer is to always have a system, but to make every system as easy as possible.  If a system is cumbersome, difficult, or super-time-consuming, we just won’t follow through.  Being organized should save you time, energy, and frustration.  The third thing that sets me apart is my coaching background.  Clutter isn’t just about “stuff.”  It is about behavior.  In order to make a lasting change in the clutter, we have to change our behavior.  I work with my clients to help them understand the behaviors that are leading to the clutter and support them in learning how to change them.ADHD-specific OrganizingMany of us with ADHD are plagued by chronic disorganization.  Organizing is a key “executive function.”  As ADHDers we often don’t develop this and other executive functions like our neurotypical peers.  But, the good thing is that they can be taught.  My extensive personal experience along with my knowledge of the brain chemistry and behavior typical of ADHD have, helped me develop a unique “tool kit” with which to help my ADHD clients.  If we understand how our brains work, we can change our behavior.  When we can effectively change our behavior, we can get different results.  In other words, if you understand your ADHD, and learn to work with it, instead of against it, there is no reason you can’t be organized with ADHD.

Home Office & Corporate Organizing

Whether you need to organize a home office or your space at work, the principles are all the same.  An organized office will foster clarity, efficiency, productivity, and confidence.  Even if you just need to manage the household mail and paperwork, you need to have a system that works and is easy to keep up.  I help my clients learn what to get rid of and how to organize what’s left according to their needs and workflow.
